Hi guys! I know this card isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, but I just loved the unusual colour combo, the Graphic 45 butterfly paper and the green gem seam binding. Pare them up with micro beads and laced Venetian accent borders and you can see my non traditional side coming out. I must admit too that this card looks better in person than my meagre photograph can show. I started with my background paper all covered in butterflies in shades of teal and rust and covered it with clear micro beads (you can see it better in the close up pic below). To my micro beaded background, I added Venetian borders top and bottom cut from black card. I added a strip of straw coloured card so that I could add mounting foam and raise the strips up to make the lacing process easier. Since the tips of the Venetian borders are very fine, you must go carefully through them with your ribbon. Don't pull too hard or they may tear. I laced the borders back and forth across my background with some Green Gem Seam Binding, leaving a bow at either side in opposite corners. I topped the bow with a fancy black button from my craft stash.
I stamped my sentiment on the same straw coloured card and cut it out with the Hexagon dies and inked it lightly with tea dye ink. I used one of my Vintage Lace accent pieces as a background for my sentiment. I mounted this in the centre of my card with mounting foam and pierced the edges to finish the piece. Hopefully, even if the colourway is too wild for you, the layout may appeal and you'll want to try it in your own choice of papers and ribbons.
Just a reminder that I have three shows tomorrow at 8am, 11am and 3pm (the last one is on Ideal World) and Julia is set to do more shows on Thursday at 12, 4pm and 7pm. I hope you can tune in to see all the fun demos we have planned! All for now, Sue x
Hello Sue, Im not sure about this card, maybe it is the colour combo but it looks too busy for me. it may work in different colours for me, but I do think the lacing technique is very different.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Sue,
ReplyDeleteLove the concept but the colours are certainly not for me. Might work in different colours, I will give the lacing a try I like that.
It amazes me how you manage to come up with so many varied ideas, keep them coming. Looking forward to tomorrow
Have a Great Day
Patricia x
I think the card is lovely and nice to see a change of colour it has a regal feel to it love the lacing. I have just bought these dies so will have a go. i think as you say better in real life than in a photo.

Morning Sue,......I like the card and the colour combo.....I have a friend who would be so delighted with this card...she loves ribbon, this would be an ideal card to make for her.....Looking forward to the show's.
ReplyDeleteHave a great crafty day.
Chrissie..x x x
GM Sue - the lacing reminds me of a bodice - can't say I am keen on it - but perhaps with a narrower ribbon I might perfer it?..Looking forward to tomorrows demos.

Hi Sue. Your lighting makes the card see very dark but the design appeals to me. Will give a few of your techniques a try. Looking forward to seeing what you and Julia come up with over the next few days, bet you two had fun.

Hi Sue
ReplyDeleteNot my cup of tea i am afraid, but i do love the lace technique.
Sue
I love the dies but I am not sure I like the lacing effect. A bit fussy for me. Will be looking out for the shows xx
ReplyDeleteThe colours are great sue, but I feel that the ribbon is a little bit heavy a thinner or a more transparent one may have been more to my taste .
ReplyDeleteBeautiful xx
ReplyDeleteThe card design is certainly stunning Sue, just not sure about the colors.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue love the colours but am not sure about the amount of ribbon, just a bit ott.x
ReplyDeleteHi Sue
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the card but for me too fussy. the ribbon colour is fabulous though.
Morning,
ReplyDeleteAs you say not everyones cup of tea. For myself i think its great - the unusual colour combo really works. This is a very intricate card with loads going on it really makes you look for all the dies that you have used.
Looking forward to the shows.

Morning Sue
ReplyDeleteWell it is not often I say it but not so keen on this one, I think it is the colour combo that I don't like, sorry! Looking forward to your shows tomorrow. Love Jean x
I love the way you used the ribbon, it's beautiful
ReplyDeletehugs Linda Dekker
I Love the colours in this card Sue, not a lover of the ribbon threading it detracts from the lovely G45 paper underneath.
ReplyDeleteJane xx
Good Morning Sue. Love the lacing, love the bows and love the teal but not keen on the background colour. See you tomorrow - yeh!
ReplyDeleteHow very unusual but very lovely too. xxx
ReplyDeleteHi Sue
ReplyDeleteI like the card but I would have done a lighter background so that the ribbon did not look 'lost'.
Looking forward to all the shows over the next 2 days.
Happy crafting
Love Tina x
ReplyDeleteHi Sue
Such an unusual card I like the colour combo and the beautiful seam binding ribbon but for me perhaps the lacing to the side of the card and then the graphic 45 paper can be seen a little more around the edge of the delicate lace sentiment.
Hugs Annx without an "e"
Got to admit this isn't my cup of tea, bit too busy.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Sue,
ReplyDeleteI watched you demo this card on C&C, wait for it....this is the only card I sit on the fence with, I dont know if I like it or not, cannot put my finger on it. Have a great day everyone.

Hi Sue
ReplyDeleteNot quite my cup of tea but I like some of the ideas that you have given us with this one.
thanks for your blog
Heather
Hi Sue, i like the colours used here but the card is too busy for me. As you say not everyones cup of tea.Sonia x
ReplyDeleteMorning Sue, love the techniques you have used here but there's something I'm not sure about; might be too busy or the colour combo. Have a lovely day, hugs Christine H xx
ReplyDeleteMorning Sue
ReplyDeleteNot sure about the colours on this card, that said I do like them but may be there's just a little too much of it with the ribbon?... sorry! I'm sure seeing it in the 'flesh' will be very appealing.
June x
Morning Sue not sure about this one it may be the colour I think I'd do it in lighter colour like pinks and lilac's I've tried doing the lacing but it just turns out wrong.

Absolutely stunning! your best card yet. brilliant colour combos. thanks for all your hard work . Sofie
ReplyDeleteMorning Sue I to am not sure about this one dare I say there is too much ribbob!!
ReplyDeleteSC
I like the design and the contrasting colours. Beautiful card! Hugs! xx
ReplyDeleteJust when I think you've shown us all the different techniques and uses of the Spellbinder dies you find a new one!! A great idea which I will have to remember myself. Thank you for the wonderful ideas. x
ReplyDeleteMorning Sue, I'm still 'on the fence' with this card, when you did it on C&C I thought how different it was, but maybe, for me, there is too much lacing involved, I preferred a small amount done on a previous card. I like the colour combo, I think it works well. Looking forward to your shows tomorrow and Julia's shows for Thursday. Lots of love from Patricia xx
ReplyDeleteLove the colour combination but the lacing plus 2 bows is too overpowering for me - sorry.
ReplyDeleteClever idea and lots of work in it but not my cup of tea. Maybe it's the colours but I'm not really keen on the lacing. Look forward to watching you tomorrow. Pat x
ReplyDeleteI like the lacing technique but not overly keen on the colours used! Looking forward to the shows tomorrow and Thursday. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteVery clever Sue. Just lovely. Hugs Sheila.x
ReplyDeleteHello Sue,
ReplyDeleteLove the colour combo but not sure about the ribbon with Venetian dies, as the dies are so delicat and the ribbon heavy in comparison,
BUT as always with you you clever lady the concept works SO maybe a different die would work for me. Have a lovely day, looking forward to tomarrows shows, Love BrenLel
Hi sue
ReplyDeletewhat I want to know is where you get your ideas from.
You always come up with something a little bit different, but with the distinctive Sue
Wilson style.
love the colours on the card.
Great card idea Sue, but I'm not sure about the colour today, not to my taste. Linda xxx
ReplyDeleteHi sue love the effect of the lacing but I'm just not sure about the card as a whole!! I can't put my finger on why as I like the colour combo maybe its just too busy looking forward to tomorrow amd thursday not spending though keeping all my pennies for all pally!! Love lesley xx
ReplyDeleteMorning Sue
ReplyDeleteSorry Sue this is not my cup of tea but I do like the technique
Have the recorder set up to watch the shows
Sue xxxx
Not sure if I really like this one. Colours great as usual but too fussy for me. Thanks Sue and sorry!
ReplyDeleteLove the way you've laced the ribbon. Looking forward to watching your shows tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteClare x
Hi Sue i have to agree with the others ,i think the lacing is too heavy might have looked better if it had been a narrow ribbon.
ReplyDeletelooking forward to the shows.
marion
Hi Sue, I love the colours on this card. I would have to steel myself to use so much ribbon though. Its a wonderful concept though. Just love the border dies.
ReplyDeleteAudrey x
Morning Sue, love the card with the different combo. Can't wait to see what you have instore for us tomorrow. Any Ideal anyone where I purchase the Tired Together folder from, apart from e-bay cos they are ripping us all off.
ReplyDeleteHave a good day all.

I do like the design of the card but must admit I'm not so keen on the teal colour with the black and gold. Looking forward to tomorrows shows Sue
ReplyDeletexx Sandra
morning Sue
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that today's card is not my cup of tea but I like the idea of the lacing and would like to see the effect of different colours - I didn't realise at first that the ribbon was threaded through the v.lace border points as it merges into the background paper.
Will certainly be tuning in tomorrow for more great inspiration.
Janet x
love the colours
ReplyDeleteMorning Sue, not sure about this card much like Pam said first thing this morning I think its too busy for me, as much as I like bows and ribbon with this one that's all I see. Hugs xx
ReplyDeleteMorning Sue. A nice card but a bit dark for me not too keen on colours.
ReplyDeleteNancyd xx
I love this colour scheme sue, and the butterfly background is one of my favourite graphic45 papers too. Wish all your programmes were on ideal world - cant get c&c on free view here (northern Ireland - signal is too weak) and the iPad app has no sound on the programmes, so I will just have to guess what you are saying lol! Good luck with the shows, Maddy x
ReplyDeleteSue,
ReplyDeleteI love this, I really enjoy when you step outside your own style.. The colors are fun and my cup,of tea... Thanks
Hi Sue, I love the way you use ribbon, the lacing effect is stunning
ReplyDeleteThanks Sue xx

Morning Sue,
ReplyDeleteWell you have certainly divided us crafters today, not sure that I like this one but do like the overall layout, for me its the ribbon I think there is too much of it.
Hope you shows go well.
Have a good day.

Good Morning Sue!
ReplyDeleteMy PC is not always complimentary with colours so if this is on C/C then I will be able to comment ..I have some of the Venetian Dies I love the Mask most I did that in Velvet paper...I look forward to seeing you Sue!
LoveMarg
Do love the colours and principle of this card but would maybe just lace my ribbon t either edges of the card and leave more of the centre showing but keep giving us more of these kind of designs to keep us thinking!,take care, x.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Sue. This card deserves being given to someone very dramatic - maybe an opera singer! Not the sort of card I'd ever make with such bold design and colours but well done you for trying something different. xx
ReplyDeleteHi Sue.
ReplyDeleteThis card is not for me as it is too fussy. I do, however, appreciate the work that went into making it.
Evis.
Hi Sue,
ReplyDeleteI didn't like this card in the first picture I must confess, a bit too much going on and I didn't like the colours but the colours looked so different in the next pictures so I think it is one of those you have to see to make up your mind!!
Love from Jackie D
The colours don't work for me, but I like the concept of lacing the ribbon. The idea's of yours that I like the best are the ones that make me think for myself, and this is one of those.
ReplyDeletexx
Morning Sue, i love the colours and layout, has a very opulent days of the ball gown feel to me. Rich and regal.
ReplyDeleteI for one love it!
Emma
Hi Sue, love the way you have laced the dies, must try this as I have these...love the colours too! Carole Z X
ReplyDeleteI love the colours and I like the idea of the lacing but I'm still not sure. Maybe a very narrow ribbon might work better for me. Christine
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it :)
Hello Sue, I agree with Cornish Emma, this card is rich and regal. I love the colour combo and the intricate lacing.
ReplyDeleteOne more sleep to your shows.
Have a great day everyone.
Hugs June x
Hi Sue, I think you are right, it probably looks better in real life. I love the colour of the ribbon but overall it is far to busy and heavy for me. Perhaps finer ribbon would take off the heaviness. Hugs, Carol S.xx
ReplyDeleteHiya Sue,
ReplyDeleteNot sure of this card. I think there iis too much of a good thing with the amount of laced ribbon. Thinner ribbon would be my ideal, but, in saying that I love the colour combination. X
Well funnily enough Sue, my hubby never watches craft but whilst i was watching your shows a couple of weeks back he was watching with me and you demoed this and he said "Urgh.....thats the worst card she's ever done"! lol........im afraid, i have to agree, but it wasnt the weaving, we loved that concept it was the colouring, not the ribbon backing paper etc, just the whole lot of it together, it just didnt go, at least we're honest hey? love the card though, just not in this colourway of mish mash, hugs Vick xxx

I'm not so keen on the colour scheme, but all kudos to you achieving that lacing with the Venetian border. I have one, and I doubt if I could do it.
ReplyDeleteI've set my sky box to record all yours and Julia's shows, after I found the odd one on IW. (I don't want to miss a minute!)
how do you come up with these ideas?. I for one like it and love the colour combo, have had my micro beads for about a month now and still not used them.

Morning Sue, lovely card but not my cup of tea, good job everyone is different. Must give the lacing a try, looking forward to your shows. Take care. Jess xx
ReplyDeleteHi sue very diffrent card but it works lol xxx
ReplyDeleteall the best martine xxx
I saw you do this last time on tv and thought how intricate it was - I'm always using my venetian borders one way or another but will now have to give this one a try. Looking forward to tomorrow! Yvonne xx
ReplyDeleteHi Sue. I am not to sure about today's card. I think maybe there is just to much ribbon on it. Also I am not to keen the colours. Sorry. I do love the Venetian borders though. I cannot wait to try mine out in October!! I am recording all of yours and Julia's shows. I cant wait to see you on tv tomorrow. Have a lovely day, love Tres x x x
ReplyDeleteHi Sue ,this ones not for me sorry.
ReplyDeleteI like the background paper ,but sadly the lacing covers most of it up
I think perhaps a thinner lighter lacing would work for me .
Take Care

Morning Sue, This could be a very man-card with the bold colours. I love the lacing. It is always difficult to get the photo to show exactly what it is like, but for me it is good and extremely clever.
ReplyDeleteLove Rosemarie xx
Hi Sue
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of the design but must say not sure about the colour combo-maybe does look better in real life.
Good morning Sue
ReplyDeleteI like this card and the idea will lend itself to other papers and ribbons too. I hate tea but love coffee so this will do for me!
Margaret
Hi Sue
ReplyDeleteLove the lacing, just not sure about colours. nice card though

VEry unusual colours and bold too, The ribbon work is a great idea. Looking forward to watching what surprises you have in store for us tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteHmmn not my cup of tea, but an absolute work of art!!
ReplyDeleteHi Sue
ReplyDeletecracking card. Love graphic 45 papers (and the ladies wonderful dresses they wear). I wonder if you have gone through your first jar of micro beads yet? Smashing they are. I have ripped many a boarder trying to do this. now use thickest card I have. i wont be beat lol. Stocking up on fancy buttons at the moment.
Can't wait for the shows

The colours chosen here are striking and the lacing is a great idea but I really think it should have been less - it seems to overpower everything else. Sorry Sue - sometimes though cards look much nicer in the flesh than they do in their photographs - this may be one of those cards.

Hi Sue, sorry this doesn't work for me. I don't like the colour combo and it is too busy for me. Can't wait for yours and Julia's shows this week what a treat!
ReplyDeleteLove the background but the lacing doesn't work for me, sorry.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, Love the layout & the dies you have used but its not a me card, I feel it is just the colours that are putting me off. Cant wait until tomorrow, can you give us an idea of what is going to be the shows ? take care vanessa xx
ReplyDeleteMorning Sue,
ReplyDeleteA very different card today, I like the colours you've used. Not too sure about the lacing, but that's just me.

Morning Sue,the jury is out on this one for me,i think there is too much going on,I love all the parts on their own, paper, ribbon devinecolour ,but put them all togeather i think it does not work ,sory sue

Hi Sue, this is certainly different but quite nice all the same. The 2nd & 3rd photographs seem to show the true colour of the ribbon more than the 1st photo. Having those pictures in your mind when you look at the background colour of the butterflies it matches & looks lovely with the bit of rust in the wings breaking it up. Love the colour combinations too. Lovely card xx Love Karen xx
ReplyDeleteThanks for giving the close-up shots for the lacing - really helps to understand how you've done this. It's great!
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, like the lace idea, might give this a try with one of the border dies i have.
ReplyDeletelooking forward to the shows tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteVery different, but I really like the lacing effect -- it's just too bad it had to hide so much of the pretty background paper.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue

Hi Sue,
ReplyDeleteLove the rich colouring in this one and am hoping the Graphic 45 paper will be one of the ones that I have so I can try it.
Looking forward to the shows tomorrow.
Sue xx
Not mad about this card I'm afraid Sue. Maybe it would look better with thinner ribbon or cord in the lacing technique.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming up with all the daily ideas to inspire us! Susan
Unusual, but I love the colour combo, love the idea for the lacing. Will try till I see for myself.
ReplyDeleteWOW this certainly floats my boat. A very different card but very impressive. Love everything about it, the colours, the paper the style of it. Great card Sue.
ReplyDeletehi Sue
ReplyDeleteI do like the laced together look cards you do, it's really different. I must remember to try that out :D
It's a lovely card. I LOVE the laced look.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the shows tomorrow....... Set to record already
Love the lace effect but shame to cover up the background Don't work to hard tomorrow but know you will as you share so many good tips will be watching c&C X
ReplyDeleteLike the layout and the colours, but I feel that a narrower ribbon would be much better, it then you would be able to see the patterned paper underneath.
ReplyDeleteBarbara
I like the colouir combo. Love the lacing idea which could be done with other dies. Must try!
ReplyDeleteWhat a different way of using ribbons, not sure about the colours but I love the technique. xxx
ReplyDeletewhat a super card sue love everything about it

HiSue, beautiful card and colours, just a tad too much ribbon for me. Best wishes for your shows tomorrow
ReplyDeleteA bit too fussy for me but love the colours x
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, like the style of the card but not sure on the colours although i love teal. Looking forward to your shows tomorrow xx hazel
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, as you said, not everyones cup of tea, maybe just the colours, as the layout is fab. Bx
ReplyDeleteWow, what lovely colours! I can't watch the shows, sadly work gets in the way, but I will record them :)
ReplyDeleteI like the colours but I prefer something a bit simpler.
ReplyDeleteGood evening Sue
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the colour combination, the venetian borders, background paper & bows...though while the lacing is a lovely idea, I feel the ribbon is a little too broad!
Sorry you can't please all of us all the time!
I look forward to seeing the 3pm show, I'm working during the early shows:(
Hope you had a great day, enjoy tomorrow!
Lara xxx
Good Evening Sue,
ReplyDeleteLOVE the colours, a sophisticated combination: Not sure about all that lacing though it seems too much and such a pity to cover up that beautiful paper! Looking forward to your shows tomorrow - no doubt I'll be tempted to buy more than I should!!
Sue
Lovely card Sue, looking forward to your shows!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, I'm definitely on the fence with this card lol! I looked at it first thing this morning and just thought there was way too much green! The paper is so lovely it seems such a shame to cover it all up. I've come back to post as I didn't get time earlier and the more I look at it, the more it grows on me - I'm getting to be really fickle lol!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to tomorrow's shows. I'll be at work but I will be recording the shows which will give me something to look forward to when I get home. Phoebe's at school camp but I have strict instructions not to delete the shows until she's watched them at the weekend.
Have a lovely day @ C&C tomorrow.

Perfect!!
ReplyDeletePerfect!!
Perfect!!
Its a bit to much for me but love the colours, sky set ready to record the shows tomorrow.hugs melody
ReplyDeleteI actually like this card, it's different, and a good idea, thanks sue
ReplyDeleteI adore the colours. The teal colour is just the sort of thing I would love on a card if it were given to me. It is my 40th soon and I know I will mostly get shop bought floral cards! Perhaps I will 'card lift' this idea and give it to myself on behalf of my children!
ReplyDeletebeautiful colours, love that teal ribbon xx gail in eatbourne
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, Somehow this card is too busy for me, I normally like lots of bows and ribbons but this card has got loads of things on top of each other to absorbed in. I do apologise as I do love all your card. Thanks Sue, love Aggie xxx

ReplyDeleteLove the lacing on this - not sure about the colours for me however my sister would love them.
ReplyDeletei love the colour combination and the idea behind this card Sue, maybe a bit heavy for some tastes, but its a great talking point, and gives us ideas on how to use elements of it for our own cards, thanks
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not for the faint hearted amongst us - lol! The more I look at it, the more it grows on me.... yes definitely... I do like it and those colours together are just so rich... lovely!
