Persian Motifs and Accents

Hello crafty friends! Thank you so much for your comments left on yesterday's post.  They were so open, honest and emotional, coming from your hearts. The support was overwhelming and truly made what could have been a very hard day for me, one that was truly memorable.  The "Life Lessons" seemed to be especially touching to most of you and I have decided that I will reprint it on my blog every March 8th in honour of my Dad.  Lest we forget those things in life, a yearly boost should help us stay focused on what is truly important in our lives.  Again, thank you so much for allowing me to share a personal side of my life with all of you.
Today is one of my favourite cards that has been done in a simple, not too over the top manner.  No large ribbons or bows, no flowers, nothing too terribly sparkly.  You are probably even wondering if I actually made this card as the only real tell tale sign of that is the piercing around the edges, huh?  Yes I did and I really like to use the dies to simply emboss in to the card sometimes as it gives a really nice detail for the eye to wander around.  These Persian Motifs do exactly that since they are beautifully detailed and rich looking.  I thought I would have the embossing start off the card a bit so it almost looks like an afterthought.  While the die was still in place, I used some antique linen distress ink to highlight the embossed detail and bring it out a bit more.  I cut two of the Persian accent borders to go across the card, separating the sentiment from the focal element.  I offset the border so that the more ornate part showed on both border dies.  I stamped my sentiment underneath in the corner in black archival ink.  I added a large black rhinestone swirl to the top of the card rising up from the borders to the far corner.  A final bit of piercing around the edge framed and finished it for me.  I know that the colours don't always come across in the correct way so just to let you know this card is black and taupe coloured.  Both of these colours were part of the cardstock pack that was available on C & C at the beginning of the POTD shows.  This card could work in simply any colour choice without issue.  I hope you like it!  All for now, Sue x

It was just nice to hear a bit more about your private side, as it kinds of makes us know you a bit better then, and I really think, your daad was an awesome man, and sure his "liferules" are very useful for anybody at any time, so reprinting them every year is absolutely great, and a really nice tribute to your dad.And they´re just sooo true, and I really think, all people should read them and if all would lrearn to live after them, this world would definitely be a much better place to live in.

  51. I am glad yesterday went OK you have the right attitude celebrate your Dad's life and attchievments, and remember you are his best achievement. Now on to the card I have never used a die to simply emboss but is looks really interesting, it gives a really deep emboss too. A bit scary for you NOT putting ribbon on it. For me I have trouble NOT using pink or lilac....

What a great card, Getting to like the less is more look. (Just made one all white). We always forget to just emboss with dies but i think they have a lovely effect. The boarders are really nice just embossed. The boarder on this card looks really opulent. The swirls i have fallen in love with. Just soften the card and a bit of bling. Smashing card.10 out of 10 again. Well done Sue.

  138. Hi Sue, I love all your cards, but I have a handfull of absolute favourites, this one will be added to that handful. Although it hasnt got flowers or bows and ribbons I find it truly beautiful, its a definate singer for me.
It goes nicely with my other top favorite, which was a black and gold card you made with labels 18 and 20, that was probably the most elaborate card you made, thank you for sharing, Helen O xxx

  143. Dearest Sue,
I have thought about you alot today and was praying that you were in good spirits.
Sue your post yesterday and the beautiful, yet sad memories of some of your followers really touched me. However it was strange as I was not left feeling sad, I was left with a sense of wellbeing. Do you understand what I mean? Your post seemed to allow us to remember and to cry but we shared it together, so it felt heart warming not heart rending. For me it felt like arms across the world linking to the same song. As if someone had opened a door and let in the light; a light to shine on the memory of all those special people at one time.
I have never felt anything like it before and even though at the time I was unable to write about my dad too, I felt very blessed to have shared such a personal time with you and your blog friends. Your idea to repost the Life Lesson list every year is a splendid idea and a tribute indeed. Thank you again for sharing.
To all the blog friends; Even though it was under sad circumstances, it was lovely to read about your loved ones. I am thinking of you all.
Well, to end now before I go Sue I would like to tell you that I think todays card is delightful. The way you have embossed the Persian die into the card is remarkable and so effective, especially alongside the double layer of border; it really looks like Guipure lace.
I hope your mum is ok, please tell her that she is in our thoughts also. Have a great weekend
    Hugs and Best wishes Linda
