A Warm Smile

Hi blog friends, a warm smile is exactly what this card gives me.  It doesn't even need much explanation as it is straight forward and easily replicated if you would like.  I used an assortment of papers that all had a butterscotch colour to them and pared it with black for a sharp contrast.  The black back piece was cut using the Fleur de Lis rectangle die.  I cut out a heart circle and used one of the smaller postage stamp dies to cut a frame for my sentiment.  I did ink around the edge of the opening just slightly to highlight it too.  I added a big bow made from the frilly edged ribbon, a black button from my craft stash and a couple of decorative pearl pins.  I finished the card by adding some faux stitching lines around the edge using a fine tip black marker.  In case you are wondering, the background paper had the print already on it, it wasn't a stamp, but just enough to add a bit of interest to the card.  I wished I had timed the making of this one for you, but it was a really quick card to make and I think it is one that would definitely work for the males in our lives, don't you think?  All for now, Sue x

  1. Lovely card again Sue. The colour is gorgeous and I agree that sometimes the die cuts speak for themselves and you don't need to add a lot to them.

  15. Sue, this truly is a smilie card and a real heartwarmer. I love the way you have used the postage stamp die inside the heart circle. I would never have thought to do that but it sets it off so well.
Sorry to say my boys wouldn't like this card. I'm not allowed to do 'bows and things' on their cards, that's too girly! Argh boys(men)!!!
I have a tip for any pc newbie that wants to see Sues lovely cards really close up. Right click on the image, open in a NEW TAB or WINDOW, this should then give you a plus sign as your pointer, click and you can see all the detail (including one of Sues lovely hairs on this card LOL...).
Thinking of you Sue. Linda x

  21. Another lovely one - elegant to its final gem!
Hope you are feeling a little better today - every day does improve but it does take a lonnnnnnng time so don't worry if does. And don't listen to 'friends' who tell you to 'pull yourself together'. Do it at your pace - not someone else's. Thinking of you.

  26. Sue where do you get your ideas from? I would never have thought of putting these dies together but they work so well. The postage die cut out of the centre makes a great frame, must get that one. The sentiment you have used makes you smile when you read it and I agree with everyone the colours used are lovely. another triumph thanks for sharing

  29. It's a lovely card, the colours are fantastic. As for working for the males in our lives - well, it wouldn't do for *my* men - they wouldn't appreciate the bow :) Actually, none of my men 'get' cards at all, they all think they're a waste of time - this is a great disappointment to someone who is a 'cardmaker' such as I.

  47. Mmmmmmm .... I'm going to name this the Werthers Original Card! I don't have a very sweet tooth but a warm buttery Werthers in the mouth is just the thing to help me concentrate when I'm crafting and this card makes me think of them. It's a beautiful card and I do have the Fleur de Lis rectangles ordered - just need to get the Postage Stamp one and check to see if I've got that lovely sentiment. Hope you're having a bearable day,Sue. Thinking of you, Sue x

  50. It is a really lovely card but I'm afraid the bow and stick pins would rule it out for any of the men I know - but the design and colours are really nice.

  51. Hi Sue

wonderful card would never thought of doing a aperture in the middle of the heart circle die.
As for the hair in the card (lindyloo) at least its not a curly one.LOL
I am starting to use beads twisted on wire into bows but think yours looks a little better on the hatpins. Keep on crafting.
