Lace Doily Fun

Happy Tuesday!  I hope everyone is doing well and fine!  I have a little bit of news for you today.  I am scheduled to be back on Create and Craft (or rather Ideal World TV) a week from today.  Now as most of you know, I am visiting my parents in Florida at the moment.  I will be back in the UK on the 12th and I have shows scheduled for the 13th and 14th!  Hopefully, I won't be too jet lagged to make sense as I demo (no promises though! LOL).  The shows start at 5pm on the 13th (so at least I will be able to sleep in a bit) and then there are shows all day on the 14th.  Check the schedule on their website the day before for the specific times as I haven't been given a final schedule yet.  I have been crafting while at Mom's so I have a bunch of new cards to show for it too.
As for today's card, I was having a bit of fun with the Spellbinder's Lace Doily Motifs and Accents.  The lavender background is two of the doily motifs cut in half and mounted with the lace edge to the inside.  I used the border dies to edge the card in black and frame it.  I cut another lace doily in white for the focal element.  I stamped my sentiment and cut it out with the Picot edge circles and inked it with Dusty Concord while it was still in the die.  I did a bit of matting and layering and added  a few pearls to the corners to finish it off.  I did do another slightly different version of this card as a demo on one of the shows.  I will see if I can find it to post this week and you can see another version.  It's fun if you own this set of dies to see some different versions.
By the way, this is one of the few dies that does require a bit of work to get it out of the dies sometimes.  Like the fancy tags that one of the followers left a comment about, you can help these dies to release if you use either an anti static pad on them or I rub them with a piece of wax paper before cutting them.  You can loosen them by rapping them on the edge of a table too.  If you use paper rather than card you will more than likely rip them.  Try a card that is about 250 gr. weight with these intricate type dies.  If anyone has any other methods that work for them, please share them as I would love to know what works for other people too.  All for now, Sue x

  1. WOW another really gorgepous card here Sue, and this is definitely one of my favorit dies too. but I´ve never had this much troubles with them at all, and I have both these here and the tags you mentioned. The tagset has a couple of times given me a few troubles, but then I just rubbed them a tiny bit on the edges with a small tealight, then it was all over. The stearin on the edges gives this little smoothness, that makes them work just absolutely fine, and it always works for me with any tools, I have a little problems with and also on some embossingpens, if they´re a bit sluggish on the paper, or try and wipe them with a sheet of tumbledryer cloths, it can alaso often do the trick, if it´s just a little, but the light always works, no matter how bad it is. Hope this is a help to anybody here.
    Have a wonderful day.

  10. What a great card and once you know how - really easy. I find that it is always best to go slowly when using an intricate die and have a small plastic glue spatul that I use to go under the card and help ease it out.

  38. i am not much of a doily fan but i like your take on this and think that i can accomplish the idea with something similar. thanks, sue, you always inspire me to dig deeper.

  39. I like this card a lot but am still a bit puzzled about the lavender border cos on close up the outside edges of the lace doily don't look cut, they look embossed. Beautifully composed card that looks nicely balanced and interesting. So looking forward to seeing you again on the 13th Sue - enjoy the rest of your time at home

  40. Sue, I find the best way of getting these kind of dies out is to place a piece of waxed paper between the die and card stock so when the die has been cut out it will be lined with the waxed paper and easier to get out.

  41. Lovely pretty card, thanks for the info regarding your forthcoming shows. Enjoy the rest of the time with your mum and dad, and safe journey back to the UK. Get your winter woolies out!!

  62. I really love the way that you have cut and used the shape to such effect! It looks like you have way more dies than you actually have.

I am really really sad but I have a confession, I have an intricate die set that .... I havnt even opened and tried yet. I am slightly ashamed of myself. I have been watching the shows, and looking at the work here, and I feel a bit more confident about using them and the potential they have, but there is nothing concrete yet, just ideas.

    still

I am wondering whether crafters companion spray and slide might work? They developed it as an alternative to rubbing a candle on paper when using their dry embossing boards, I havnt tried it yet though.

I guess the schedule means a pick of the day? I wonder if there will be butterflies. Love the look of those grand butterflies!

  64. It's a lovely card Sue - and one of my favourite sentiments. I've got the doily dies but not the picot edge so I'll have to go shopping again! but will wait until next weeks shows, in case there's a good offer that includes them. (Even though I've 2 lots of Spellbinders Easy Pays on the go already - hey ho! ) Like everyone, I'm looking forward to seeing you on TV again (and am planning my week around it so I don't miss anything) and wish you a safe and hopefully not too exhausting journey.
