A Kraft Card

Hi there blog friends!  This card was made using the bits and pieces of left over pieces of kraft card and other earthtoned decorative papers that I had.  Every once in a while you want to put something together and don't seem to have enough decorative paper to do exactly what you want so you end up with a card like this instead.  I cut a frame from black card for my focal element from Labels eleven and labels fifteen on the inside I used my houndstooth embossing folder to give it texture.   I stamped my sentiment on a piece of natural kraft card and then cut a faux labels eleven nestie from it.  Using my edgeability dies, I cut a small heart border in black and added it to a larger heart border that I cut from kraft card.  I mounted small black card behind the hearts then mounted a piece of kraft card from the Tim Holtz decorative kraft pad.  I added another small piece of this to the top of the card for balance.  The three small black hearts are the ones that I removed from the border cut outs earlier.  I added some black vintage ribbon , a button and some Bakers Twine.  The entire card was mounted on to a piece of black card and gold PVA glue dots were added to the edge to complete the card.  If you have some scraps you need to use up, give this one a try!  All for now, Sue x

  33. Hi Sue and blog friends,
Wow, what a card. Helen and Carol are so right, this card could easily be modified for masculine and even Steampunk. Take off the bow & hearts (sorry Sue), add cogs, locks and keys etc and you have Steampunk (the bp looks like cogs and with the colours it is perfect Vintage/Steampunk. Even the houndstooth embossing looks like metal links!)
Can I ask Sue, did you see the versatility in this card when you created it, 'cos if I'm honest I think it is by far one of your most inspirational creations, as it has so much potential.
As you can tell, I love cards that can easily be adapted. A bit of a lift here, change of colour there, add this and that and Voila! Similar but different everytime; and from scraps too, just fantastic Sue!!!
Finally, thanks Sue P., I am normally full of useless info so I am so glad the enlarging titbit helped you.
Hope you are well Sue, and I hope you and everyone has a good day today.
    Regards Linda x

  45. Its amazing what you can do with a few scraps. The coour tones are very effective and if bows and ribbons were removed (sorry) and cogs and things added it would make a great masculine card.

  54. Sometimes I use the little cutouts too. It is very fiddly if you use the tiny ones, but you can create some nice embellishments that way.

  55. Sure doesn't look like a scrap card! Love that you used the hearts from the border die.

  59. Hi Sue,
I love the gold pva glue dots around the edge of the card. I would have never tried this as I thought using a bright shiny colour would draw attention away from the main focal point. However, the background of the message is big and bright enough to cope and your eyes are drawn around the card after bringing your attention to the text & tiny cut out hearts. Shows there are no rules in craft. Can't wait to try this technique.
    With love and light Theresa

  62. Hi Sue,

My first thought was this makes a good male card. As for scraps, well this is where spellbinders come into their own I think as I'm always using up bits and pieces making flowers and borders so 2012 must be designated the year of no waste for everyone!!

    love from Jackie D
