Hi blog friends! I thought that I would mix it up a bit today and show a card that was made about six months ago using the Spellbinders bird cage die set. I didn't get very much time to play with this die set as it had been added last minute to a show I was doing at the time. I think I have four or five cards total that use this set (mixed in with my backlog of card samples) but it quite lovely. I tried something different here and I was rather pleased with how it turned out. I used the actual die as a stencil for my card. I applied black soot distress ink through the die so that you get the very subtle hint of the birdcage on the background. I used the bird die from the set and mounted it in the centre of the floral doily pieces in the corner of the card. The back piece of background card was embossed using the floral embossing folder and I very lightly inked it around the edges with the black soot to bring the pattern into view. I wanted to bring a bit more of the coral colour in to the card for balance so I ruched the vintage ribbon down the side of the floral doily border and added a scrunched messy bow and a couple of black decorative pins as accents. A fun technique to give a try sometime! All for now,
Sue x

Another great card sue your blog is the first thing I look at every day
Sue,
Just love your cards, the embellishments, the ribbons. I have a question though, how do you send your cards through the post. Do you always use a box or do you use envoboxes. I need a tutorial to make the latter I think.
Keep up the inspiration, your cards are wonderful.

Great ideas for different use of the dies, as always you come up with something special.
This card just goes to show you don't have to put lots of spellbinders on to make a great card. It is a good one for those who like a little less on their cards - not like me who likes loads and loads on mine!!!!
Hi Sue,
I love this card and the ribbon is gorgous and goes well with this style of card.

Great card!
Hi Sue, What a great idea, never thought of stencilling with the dies. A must to try. You have a made another beautiful card. Hugs x ChrisB
Hello Everyone - this is truly one of my favorite sets and I used it two weeks ago to make a get well card for a very precious loved one who was in hospital. This is a very nice card Sue and using it as a stencil is such a good idea - I've found that some of the leaf dies, if cut from ordinary copier paper make really nice stencils for background papers - the copier paper doesn't leave a ridge at all. Thanks for showing some of the older dies - I love them.
Hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving.
love from lilygee xxx
It looks great as a stencil.
Thank you Sue for another lovely card which encourages us to think about using our crafting tools in different ways.
Hi Sue, I am truly sorry to be so late commenting but life is extreme at the moment. I have a quote today; I think it represents what I see in your delightful card. Hope thats ok.
'God loved the birds and invented trees. Man loved the birds and invented cages.' (Jacques Deval)
Do you think this bird dreamed of taking flight? Hope you are not too jet lagged and have enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving. Regards Linda
Another lovely card Sue! I love that soot technique - that would be fun to try that out. Thanks for sharing :)
Another beautiful card. I need everything but money is tight at the moment. Hope you had a lovely thanksgiving day with the family.. Chris xx
Its my birthday today and I have treated myself to yet another set of spellbinders. These are my favoutite colours this card is stunning.
Loved all the recent shows Sue and looking forward to getting my new dies. Just a thought - would be wonderful if some dies were created to cut out the treasure box stamps (creative expressions) love those stamps and am loathed to cut off the decorative hedges. Sure there must be lots of those stamps out there! Keep those inspirations rolling xx
Lovely card
ma che bella!
Love the vintage look! It's very pretty! Mimi
really like this card. That bird, with a bit of promarker could easily turn into a festive robin
SUE THIS CARD IS LOVELY
FROM DEBBIE
I love the juxtaposition of the smoky tones and the bright scarlet ribbon, lovely, moody card.
Vee x (You should really hold an exhibition each card is a work of art. I have to revisit many of my favourites and that makes them more than cards.)
I like this idea Sue, something a little different
