Good Sunday morning all! I thought these two cards were the perfect pairing to use for today's double day. Think masculine card for this first one, black card, no frills, no flowers, plus the gilding flakes just show up so nicely on the black card!. I started with a piece of black card and cut the Belgian border out of it repeatedly (eight times) without the outer cutting edge. I attached a sticky adhesive sheet to the back of it once cut and turned it over and gilded the exposed adhesive areas on the front. I used Silver Dream gilding flakes on this one. Next I used the outer cutting die from the Brussels die set to cut an aperture in the centre of the card. I added mounting foam to the background to raise it for dimension. Next I coated the Royal Palace Stamp To Die For with Flake and glitter glue. I covered the stamp with a piece of black card and quickly ran my hand over it to transfer the stamped image to the card. Once the flake and glitter glue goes completely clear, you can use your gilding flake on it, but don't forget to clean your stamp straight away. Using a small piece of rubit scrubit pad, I refined the gilding flakes on the stamped image to remove any extra flake. I cut the image with the Brussels die and I used the inner die to cut the centre of it as well to create a frame. I cut the inner decorative die from the set out of coconut white card and glued it behind the opening. I seated the entire shape back into the aperture and stamped my sentiment, cutting it out with the oval in the Antwerp die set. I added mounting foam and placed it in the centre of the card. To complete the card, a white, black, white mat order was used with Cosmic Shimmer white PVA glue dots around the inner white mat. The finished dimensions are
7 3/4" x 8 1/4" in size. Scroll down for card number two.
Card number two started by embossing three strips of coconut white card using the Provencale Lace embossing folder. I added thin back mats and mounting foam and attached them to another piece of coconut white card to create my background. I wrapped a piece of frilly edged white ribbon around the lower portion of the card and added a double bow to the side. I topped the bow with a decorative rhinestone accent, some silver metallic linx and a couple of matching stick pins. The focal element for this card is merely the cut out piece from the above card (we can't waste it now can we!) I used the inside cutting edge from the Antwerp to cut the centre out of it to create a frame. I cut the decorative die from the Antwerp and glued it in place behind the frame opening and added another white backing piece to it. I stamped my sentiment and cut it out with the oval die in the Antwerp set. Black and white mats were used on this card to finish it as well, but I pierced the inner layer this time. The finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x 8 1/2" in size.

Hi Sue
ReplyDeleteLove both cards that you've given us today. Isn't it funny how using a border like this makes a lovely design. I wasn't able to watch your shows as we only have Freeview and Hochanda is off air at the moment. How frustrating for us Freeview customers. I know we could watch on the computer but the streaming is not very good.
Two lovely cards. xxxx
ReplyDeleteBoth very pretty :)
ReplyDeleteTwo lovely cards today Sue, if I had to choose I would pick number 1, unusually for me I like what you called a man's card! I did think I could make it for my brother, but I know if I made it I wouldn't want to part with it lol!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to today's winners.

Why did my eyes see one thing in the title of this blog and my brain read Brussel sprouts and so leave me confused? Probably because we were discussing them in Julia's workshop yesterday and the words are deeply embedded!! It must be my age.
ReplyDeleteAny way, on to the designs and away from my peculiar sad psyche. These are Two lovely cards. I do especially like the first one but I am not sure why. I think it is because I like the combination of gilding flakes and black card en masse. I too need to rethink my need/want for the Brussels dies. OH dear!!!!!!
Teresa
Beautiful cards Sue, loved your shows yesterday xx hazel
ReplyDeleteI love both these cards. The black one in particular is so dramatic!
ReplyDeleteHi Sue
ReplyDeleteTwo gorgeous cards! Really enjoyed your shows yesterday

Good afternoon Sue and the Wilsonettes,
ReplyDeleteSue the first card although dark for me is just right for those men that just don't do any hobbies except sit in a chair and vegetate. How can they not have a shed to go and play in out of our hair and doing something constructive instead of sitting and barking orders or asking every 30 seconds "where are you going?" "What are you doing?" Anyway this just might be one that i can make for my friends' hubby that is turning 70 soon, as he is that above man and i have no idea what to make his card about. The second one that you have used the cut out waste flower, i would need to make a frame to cover the edges on the focal point as it doesn't look finished to me, which is where your other matching dies come into their own to finish off for me. See, you would think you had planned it that way to be able to mix and match with each other, lol.
Well we are on day two of kitchen tiling and so far we are on the second tile since 11:00. Thank goodness they are large 12" x 18" otherwise i think it would need to be a month tiling my wee bit kitchen instead of a short amount of time.
To this weeks winners congratulations girls, i hope that you get great use out of your prize when it arrives.
Sending hugs to all my lovely Wilsonettes that need, could do with or just want some, they are yours for the taking.
Love and crafty hugs
Norah (Glenochil)
Double Brussels Sue......made me think of Christmas dinner!! Two very elegant cards though love from Jackie xx

Two gorgeous cards Sue, one very opulent, the second a bit lighter.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to comment game winners.
Thank you ladies, I have arrived safely, the flat is directly opposite the sea, to the left I can see the Isle of Wight, to the right I look over to Poole,. The flar is sheet luxury with security features and an underground garage so I feel very secure. I have been shopping so all set to go now. The drive took 6 hours with one stop but the roads were fine all the way.
The twins are 13 today so I saw them last night as I was leaving early and they had a day arranged with their Mum in York. Ryan kept asking where are you now Grandma.
June, I was so pleased to see you at no. 1 this morning, but did that mean you are still not sleeping, hope you are not worrying too much about the op. You will be fine, promise.
Tina T so sorry to hear of Peters additional problems, it must be such a worry for you.
Elaine, my ongoing care for you and Andrew, hope all is still well for his treatment.
Tina, how is Mick doing, Hope his appetite is still good and they can stop the weight loss.
Hugs to Tracey and all in the blog who need one.
Two very exciting cards, the first one is definitely a male card but the second one is a little lighter. Congrats to the winners, enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteA very nice masculine card today. Good use of the cutaway piece for the second card. No, we certainly do not want to waste those gilding flaked pieces. I love gilding flakes - as long as I don't sneeze when I have the jar opened! I enjoyed your presentations on hochanda. I still have two more to watch on "catch-up".
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful card!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to all three of this week's comment winners!
ReplyDeleteBoth of these cards are absolutely stunning!! I especially love the first one! Very mysterious and strong! I have always loved a strong, dark and mysterious card and this one doesn't disappoint!!
The second one is equally lovely but doesn't have the strength that the first one does!!! Gilding flakes are one of my favorite ways to add color to projects!
I remember the first time I got a delivery of gilding flakes in a jar! I headed right into my nice and cool (thanks to multiple fans) craft room and opened that jar right up and dumped it into another container. Well, I should say I TRIED to dump it into another, larger container. Thanks to the multiple fans I had gilding flakes EVERYWHERE! It was like the fairies had gone crazy with fairy dust and it was floating down on my table, the floor, me and every other surface in the room! It has been over three years since that happened and I am still finding flakes here and there! Lesson learned. If using gilding flakes shut fans off! LOL
Have a great weekend everyone and see you next post! :-)
Two beautiful cards... thanks you. I have fallen in love with the Belgian border die and hope it will be my next purchase. I can see it set in front of colours to create a stained glass window effect. Love the touches of guilding flakes on the black card.
ReplyDeleteSusan x
Amazing details in these dies! Awesome card!
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, Two gorgeous cards with beautiful colours and beautiful die-cuts.
ReplyDeleteLots of love from Patricia xx
Hi Sue, two very nice cards. I love the design, the dies and the gilding flakes but you will know the rest :-) Tracy thinks some people are scared of black, maybe they are and although I am not one of them (I do use it occasionally) basicly I just don't like it lol
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the comment game winners, enjoy playing with your prizes.
Pam, glad your journey was ok and that the flat is comfortable. If you like nature then I would recommend a trip to Poole and then a boat ride to Brownsea Island. It is well worth a visit.
Frances
2 super cards, love the masculine one.
ReplyDeleteTwo lovely cards from such a beautiful die. The Belgium dies are do lacy looking.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the comment winners, enjoy your prize.

Once again Sue two gorgeous cards from same dies
ReplyDeleteVC x
These two are really gorgeous today Sue.xx
ReplyDeleteGood evening lovely sue and her crafty crew!
ReplyDeleteOh I feel so spoiled, two stunning cards and only a day after overdosing on your demonstrations on Hochanda and you tube, life has never been so good:-)
Unlike some ladies, I really appreciate a bit of black on a card, I find it elegant and sophisticated like a LBD or a black tie and dinner suit. So today's cards really appeal to me, especially since they are coupled with some opulent building flakes....a lovely combination that is perfect for the men in our lives without being to OTT or garish. The Belgian dies are striking and perfectly suited to this combination, I love the card designs especially the triple embossed panels....lovely, and you just can't beat a bit of ribbon, dazzler and stick pins:)
Well, I think I'm steadily recovering from my trip South and journey home.....aided by a day watching Sue back to back on you tube and Hochanda. What a fabulous assortment of Christmas cards on display, plenty of inspiration and enough to get my teeth into when all of the dies eventually arrive....I'm determined to get as many of the festive dies as I can even though I have plenty from previous releases....it's a sickness and I'm not interested in a cure:-) I'm determined to use some of my older dies too so I was watching some old you tube demos with the festive baubles from a couple of years ago, they are stunning and deserve a second outing. I'm just a little bit excited and obsessed by creating festive inspired cards, can you tell?
Oh Pam, you sad and deluded old sweetie. How could you possibly believe that I would be an adequate replacement for you during your much deserved break in Bournemouth when a) no one can replace you in this demanding role, and b) if I don't get a good ten hours my mood and good looks suffer considerably....anything before ten is unusual in my world:-) Have a lovely holiday honey, it sounds absolutely glorious.
June, you have filled the gap left by Pam most professionally but I do hope that it isn't because you are having trouble sleeping again. You have a lot on your mind with your pre assessment and op on the horizon, I hope your previous wound clears in time.
Yvonne, is your life meaningless and empty now that I have departed? Understandably so, so you have to fill the void with food, I understand....how lovely for you to have a decent cooked meal at a friends, makes a pleasant change from your own crap:-) only joking dear, I'm actually in withdrawal now that I don't have access to your scabby roast potatoes and white chocolate brownies....I must get the recipe and try them at home because waiting another year to sample them is simply cruel and unnecessary! Thinking of little George tomorrow, wish him luck in his new job....just think of all the dies you can now buy with his board money:-)Happy days!
Sending hugs to tina&peter, tina&mick, elaine&andrew and Tracy, hope you are all well.xxx
Wheely Bad, hope everything is okay with you and Billy, missing youxxx

Hi Sue. WOW, WOW, WOW !!! These two cards today are amazing !!!! I am sorry I am unwell today so it will be a short comment. I really love both of these cards Sue. A very clever idea to make use of your cut out shape for the second card. They both look fantastic and I certainly could not choose a favourite between them. I love gilding flakes, even though I get in such a mess with them. You have used such beautiful dies and colours. The bow and stick pins on the second card are the perfect finishing touches. Just like you say Sue I think the first card is perfect for a man. A really great stamp you have used for the centre of the first card. I do love the detailed designs of both of the inside dies on both cards. Thanks for sharing two amazing cards today. Sending lots of love to you Sue from Tres x x x
