Hi blog friends! Today's card is one of the last few Labels 20 cards that I have left to show for awhile. I do really love this die shape so no doubt it will be finding it's way back into my card making very soon. Sometimes I set out with an objective in mind and this was the case with this one. I think we often get certain rules in our heads about card making like everything has to work exactly or it doesn't work at all! Case in point is this card, the sentiment was stamped on the striped background paper and I decided that I didn't want to show it by cutting out the oval shape that was part of the stamped image surrounding it. I picked labels 18 to use as an aperture because I thought it was far more interesting in shape. You can still see the stamped pattern (although it is in a very pale aqua colour ink), but you needn't let the shape dictate your card designs either. Be bold! I also cut a larger labels 20 for the background and added pearl Nestabling to it (I cut the centre out by hand so my sentiment would show). I stamped Justrite borders on the top and bottom of the card and just heat embossed them with clear. I used some pieces of leftover silky crush ribbon and made flowers by heating the edges, stacking them and gluing and adding pearls to the centre. I added some pearl swirls for bling and pierced the edges to finish it off. Very basically a simple card, but I hope that you will take with you a different idea about "card making rules." There shouldn't be any! Just do what you like and what you think works! All for now, Sue x

ReplyDeleteThere is a time and place for rules and crafting has no rules you just go with the flow to see what comes out, many a time I have an idea and what I end up with is nothing like what I was aiming at.

Great combination of dies, they really work together.
ReplyDeleteI wrote to Spellbinders about the Fleur de lis die and got this reply:
Lesley,
Thank you for contacting Spellbinders Customer Support. Fleur de lis Pendant is a very popular die, unfortunately it was discontinued to make room for new dies that were announced. We do not have any inventory on this item and I have no information regarding its return. I suggest that you watch our website, blog, to see what the designers will announce next! Please contact me if you have any other questions.
I am now thinking that one of the Asian motif dies might make a good substitute.
Morning Sue, a beatiful card the
ReplyDeleteflowers are great must do this again the last time you showed them I tried them and they looked
great but you forget till you see

Lovely card Sue. I had my first attempt at making 'frames' at a workshop the other day...I de embossed the frames by mistake...duh!, but they still looked okay. We did the interlocking technique with the strip threaded through, and I was really pleased with the result.

Another great card. I love the idea of stamping onto the background. I'm not a "stamper" (at the mo!) but a digital crafter. I'm going to have a go at printing a sentiment onto background paper and building up from that!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have thought it possible to stamp the sentiment onto striped paper in case it looked odd or made the sentiment difficult to read - but it's absolutely fine! So I understood what you said about no rules. Note to self - I must be braver!
ReplyDeleteLove the colour and I have that ribbon. Some of my Christmas cards have it wrapped round them, cinched in the middle and topped with die cut holly.
Sue xx
Lovely card and a beautiful sentiment.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue
ReplyDeleteI love the card. It's beautiful.
Love Elaine
I love the way the 18 die goes with the 20 - must have a play with all the labels in my stash.
ReplyDeleteIn response to LADYLACE - if it is the fleur de lis squares you are after then try iconuk - free postage too. A bit cross with CC as I bought the d lites the first time around as "they will not be brought back at this price the next time" They were right - they are cheaper! Ah well - that's life!
Hoped it might be you Sue for the POTD - so double disappointment! X
Finally I realised Labels 20 was the only Die I was missing & as you were using it so much I gave in & bought it today, then you tell me this is the last one you will be using it for a while LOL However I have loved all the cards you have made with this die so when it arrives I will be able to practice. Hugs xxx
