Morning all! Sometimes when I look back on the pictures of some of the cards that I have made, I do have to laugh at the inspiration behind them sometimes. This one was simply because I had never used this green and white striped grosgrain ribbon and I wanted to. I did not have a single piece of green card that matched it so I thought, I'll go all white with just a pop of the green from the ribbon. I will admit to really loving green and virtually all shades of it too. I know it is not a really popular colour and I always get comments that it isn't your favourite (with the exception of teal green), but I would love you to give it another chance and see if it makes you sing like it does me. Maybe just a little green is okay, what do you think? I started this card by stamping my sentiment in the corner then embossing the top of the white background with the Elegance embossibility folder. I used the Cosmic Shimmer pearl PVA glue to add dots to all the circles and flower centres on the background. After it was dry, I wrapped a piece of the ribbon around the card and taped it to the back. I pinched it a bit and added a glue dot to keep it that way until I added my bow on top (this is a cheat, but it saves ribbon) I tied a double bow and attached it with a sticky glue dot. I added two decorative stick pins to the knot and topped my bow with a pearl embellishment. (It slipped a bit and I didn't notice when I took the picture, but it should be covering the knot). These, by the way, are being manufactured for us and will be available in a few weeks time, I will let you know!

Now that is the background sorted, so for the focal element, I used the Spectacular Spin Cut, Fold, Tuck die and beaded it with clear micro beads. I have had quite a few questions about how to use micro beads so hopefully this will clear it up. I cut a piece of white card large enough for my die. Then I cut a piece of the self adhesive sticky paper the same size. Peeling back one side of the adhesives backing paper (it doesn't matter which side, one is glossy and one is matte, but if you want to die cut it and tape your die in place, then make sure the adhesive stays on the matte side). If you hold the sticky sheet with the matte side towards you and use your finger to flick the edge to get it started, then 9 times out of 10, the sticky will stay on the side with the matte backing paper attached to it. Once you have exposed the sticky, lay it face down on your card (in this case, mine was a piece of plain white card). Smooth it out with your hand so it is attached well and has no air bubbles. Attach your die so that it is face down on the side with the backing paper and run it through your machine to cut your shape. Do not emboss as it will cause the paper to shatter and you don't need to because the beads will cover the embossed features anyways. Then peel the remaining piece of the backing paper off, exposing the sticky sheet. Lay your card face down in a box lid or plate that has your micro beads in it and press firmly. This will attach all your micro beads to your card. Brush away any remaining loose ones and use your fingers to press the others firmly on to your sticky card. For my Spectacular spin, I then just folded back the cut pieces and tucked them underneath exposing the non beaded white card for a nice contrast. I used some 3D foam and mounted it in the centre of my card. I added a pearl to the very centre and pierced my edges to complete my card. What do you say, is green okay, can the green stay? All for now, Sue x

Hi Sue love this ribbon and like your idea for the bow to save ribbon. I use green quite often and there are many, many differing shades. White card with a splash of colour works very well.
ReplyDeleteWilma
My sort of card, love it, love it, as I too like green. Not that I've done much crafting, as still no Grand Calibur, for some reason C&C didn't replace mine, even though in stock, can't understand why! All these lovely dies with no machine to use them, so sad! Take care. Look forward to you on TV again.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue,
ReplyDeletewonderful card, love that colour green bow. Now this is funny, I'm just in the middle of making a Birthday card for my friends Birthday and guess what, It's apple green and white. I was lucky enough to have this colour card, but it's very thick and would not cut out on my ornamental cross die, even after running it through quite a few times. So I had to go with a different design than I planned. Have you any tips for thicker card? Have a great crafty day everyone.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.
Hi Sue
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card Sue. Green isnt my favourite colour but looks great like this.

ReplyDeleteHi Sue, I love green, but sometimes do find it hard to match shades. Lovely card and green can stay. Bx
ReplyDeleteA stunning card, and I like the green and white ribbon.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
I think the green is fine and the card is lovely.
ReplyDeleteI like green (most shades) and I love this card. My arty Aunt once told me that green goes with anything like in nature and providing its a "natural shade" then I think that's true. All greens look good in nature but it is much more difficult to get a good effect if trying to match different shades in craft. So I think you did the right thing and used it as an accent. Hoping to visit a craft shop called Emerald Crafts today - how appropriate. Ju
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card. Hugs,Moni

ReplyDeleteGood Morning Sue
ReplyDeleteYes, the green can definitely stay, the card is really striking, so glad the pearl embellishments are going to be made for us to buy, they really finish the card.
Reguarding the Grand Calibur, I am on my second one, had no joy from C&C, so bought a new one, I dismantled the old one and found the screws inside had worked free causing the roller casing to free itself inside, put it back together and it works fine now, so I gave it to my sister, only thing I have found now, the new tan mat I have is so static, I find it curls the card when I remove the pieces, any other suggestions apart from tumble dry sheets?
Have a good day everyone.
Happy2craft

I love it! I like green too, not so much olive greens but leaf greens and lime. My favourite is to put them with turquoises and pinks! My bathroom is lime green, white and hot pink! This card is fab, the stripy bow works so well with the white, it reminds me of my parents garden where they had green and white stripy chairs but had beautiful garden ornaments too. Zo xx
ReplyDeleteGood morning Sue, my late mother hated green always said it was unlucky (never knew why) but it is a colour I do like, especially teal so yes for me the colour green can stay. Have a great day, looking forward to seeing you soon on C&C, hugs Christine H x

Oh Sue you do make a stunning card and there is nothing at all wrong with green. All the interior design efficienados will tell you green is a calming and relaxing colour, very often cool in nature if there is a bluish undertone however this ribbon is more a citrine shade which is warmer in nature to to the yellowish undertone. I think this is stunning which would especially appeal to my mum whose favourite colour is green and any shade except olive at that!

ReplyDeleteHi Sue, love this card, I do like cards that are black and white with a spash of colour and this all white, with green ribbon is just lovely. I must admit I am not a huge lover of green, and tend not to use it in my cards, but recently I did add a green background to a card I made for my mum on mother's day, and was impressed with the result. Love it Sue, love the simplicity and elegance, the layout etc is fab, this green is fresh and delicate. I have to say I love quite a few shades of green, its more the dull and forest green that I dont particularly like.
ReplyDeleteVery very excited for the button, I have seen you use them quite often and always think they look lovely, thank you Helen O xxx
This is gorgeous Sue! I love the splash of green on that gorgeous white card! But I would have been thrilled if it was all green :) Next to purple, green is my favorite color in all its shades and hues! I love this green and white stripe - I would love a whole roll of it!
ReplyDeleteWhile I'll freely admit that green isn't my favorite color is this lovely. I vote yes!

Sue, what can I say, absolutely fantastic, so fresh and clean lines. The green and white ribbon accents this card beautifully but does not detract from the main focal point die. Absolutely beautiful. Lots of Love Patricia Howarth xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Sue for the detailed instructions on how to get the effect. Love the green bow; another stunning card. Anne
ReplyDeleteThis is the most elegant card I've ever come across.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue How could anyone not like this card, it is stunning and the green is great!
ReplyDeleteI like green, and this white card with the little touch of green is stunning!
