Happy Birthday To You

Hello there my crafty friends!  Here's a birthday card for my fellow June born out there.  I really like this one as it shows off the different ways you can use the Hobnail Vase.  I selected a piece of coconut white card and stamped my sentiment in black in the upper corner.  It is from one of Phil Martins stamps sets, it is big and bold and really makes a statement.  Next I cut the Hobnail Vase a couple of times out of white card.  It is supposed to look like milk glass, but you can do it in any colour you like.  I cut the vase to look like it was in three different configurations, one full size, the one half size and one very small one in more of a pot size than a vase.  I filled the large vase with the Lily of the Valley flowers, cut in green as the base, then I cut them again in white and just glued the flowers over the top of the base and arranged them in the vase.  I used the Spring Daffodil die for the middle vase and used the 3D trumpets on them.  On the small pot in front I arranged the leaves from the Sweet William die to look like a houseplant.  I staggered the vases with mounting foam for dimension.  One and custard card mats and layers were used to complete the card.  The finished dimensions are 7" x  7 3/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  1. Gorgeous card Sue, really nice.
Crewe Trish, very hard for you cleaning out your brothers flat, Tony will be so proud of you, he will live in your heart now.
Elaine, your hair sounds beautiful, what good men you have to notice and comment, glad you like it too.
June, hope you are feeling better now after some rest.
Diane. Your poor fingers, they must be so sore. Don't even attempt to do housework, they will get caught on everything.
Maureen, I can imagine the excitement in Killen Towers when you saw your name, enjoy your prize honey.
Alison, if you could teach me to swim that really would be the pinnacle of your career. It is the one thing I've always wanted to do but have never mastered it, although I do have a 25 metre certificate but still can't do it. Good luck with your training, hope you reach your goal. Enjoy Scitland, hope it stays fine for you.
    Have a lovely day all.
Hugs to all, missing and poorly friends especially.

  6. Hi lovely. How sweet and caring are you, if I was a June birthday buddy that would have made me feel so special.
I really must own this vase and these flowers dies, maybe if I talk about them again today, I may have a lovely surprise on our June anniversary lol. Time for blame again Sue lol. The thing is you have given us so many beautiful floral elements I could make lots of CAS cards with just the vase, but extra flowers are always so nice, for once I can see in my minds eye the kind of cards id like to make with these dies, if I can make cards as beautiful as this then ill be one happy person. Thank you for starting my week with a lovely sample.
Sending love n hugs your way xx

I love today's card and wouldn't have thought of cutting the vase down! I don't own this vase die but do have your other one and after seeing how versatile this one is, guess what's been added to my list? Lol! Your flower dies are nearly always at the top of my list on every new launch because you can never have too many flower dies. I have a couple of daffodil dies but in my opinion yours are the best, they look so realistic and are very easy to make.

Echoing Pam again - and hoping today not too harrowing for the boys and indeed all the family.
Saba, Yeti being Yeti - have a pinpricked knee from a mild attack! Yes, Llandysul very familiar - esp Buon Appetito! Only one bank there now after the previous big four - sign of the times.

  51. Dear Sue and Her Fabulous Band of Happy Crafters,

Glorious card! Love those little white bells. I see that you put a leaf behind them so they show up.

    Patricia's back!

Maureen Killen, I'm so embarrassed! I must have known a Wendy Killeen once, and my subconscious keeps trying to call you that. Thank you for making light of it.

So, Kitty, by very big birthday, do you mean you are finally 21? 30? 50? Remember, friends and cake and are consolation for the years piling up. When I turned 60, my stamping friends gave me 60 presents, although they counted every part of a set as a separate present. Like, an alphabet set would count as 26. My chance for payback is coming in October, when another of us turns 60.

Love the Cosmic Swimmers as the synchronized swim team name.

My father's dad was the first person I had known who died. I must have been 14 or so. I don't remember anything about the funeral, but the stories I heard about him when everyone went back to his and Grandma's house really gave me an appreciation for the funeral process and gave me insights into his character. For example, a family with 15 children lived just up the hill from them, and people said when the family's heater quit and the family was too broke to even feed the kids, Grandpa bought the nozzle to fix it and delivered it with bread. Doesn't seem like much, but It showed a different side of him than I had known. Also, people laughed a lot in telling the stories, and we met distant cousins we hadn't known about. I hope, Pam, that you can help them understand what is happening and what they're supposed to do.

    Best to all,

    Love,
    Donita

  65. Hello Sue,
Love everything about today's card. It has one of my favourite flowers (Lily of the Valley) the other being Hollyhocks. I think you could call them the Little and Large of the Flower World!! Daffodils are the cheerful flowers of spring, and I thought the small leaves in the smallest vase were cacti. So clever. Mam would have loved this card too - her birthday was the 4th June 1906 so you have a long way to catch up to her!!
Pam, thinking and praying for all the family on this very difficult day. I hope the twins don't get too upset. I also hope your chest and breathing are o.k.
Saba, I wouldn't call Myra Tinker Bell, I'd just call her a Tinker - and often have.
Donita, don't worry. I don't mind whatever anyone calls me - except George when he runs through his sisters' names and then says Mam and he means his mother!!! I know I'm looking older but p l e a s e!!!! When I was 60 some of my presents included a Rainmate (one of those old lady, plastic, pleated, hair covers in case of rain), a bus pass holder and the biggest pair of knickers known to man. They came from people who used to be my friends ha ha.
Elaine, hope everyone is doing well today, and that the neighbours have recovered from the sight of a glamour puss in their midst.
Patricia, welcome back - I had no idea you were away ha ha.
Fluffycat, hope the visit to the dentist is over in double quick time.
Rosemary, Diane doesn't drink wine - from a glass, she just uses the bottle ha ha. (That's not really true - she uses a pint glass - ooh I'm in trouble now.)
Alimecca, when will you start putting us through our paces and training us? Have a good time in Scotland, are you passing through Newcastle?
Yvone, hope the wrinklies are having a good time and you are perking up.
    Laine - miss you.
May I borrow Pam's words and say hugs to all missing and poorly friends, she says it so well.
    love to all

What a great card again today, the flowers are so pretty, lily of the valley is one of my favourite flowers, it grew in our garden when I was little and had it in my wedding bouquet. Love how the vases have been charged tolook so different, I've got a vase like this in my cupboard that belonged to my gran so a special card for me. Thank you for sharing.
    Love Diane G xxx
Thank you for your concern over my fingers, they are still sore today but are throbbing less. I've been forgetting and going to do things today but the pain catches me and stops me so I'm trying to be good. Don't worry Rosemary I can hold a wine glass in my left hand quite easily😀. Don't believe a word Maureen says, a pint glass detracts the delicate flavour. Myra and Saba will tell you I use a straw in the bottle instead, it's all lies !!
Pam I've been thinking of you all today, I hope the funeral went as well as it could and the twins coped ok. Donita I've often found interesting things out about people at their funerals and it makes you want to spend another hour with them to find out more. Xxx

  87. Hello Sue,
A truly pretty card today - with an ingenious use of the Hobnail Vase Die! How clever . I , like many others love Lily of the Valley and yours is very realistic. I don't have any of today's Dies but they are all lovely .
I've just watched Julia and she did a very good job of explaining how versatile your Dies are. She used the Indian Ocean Dies to demonstrate this. It was most informative.
Pam - I do hope all went well today and that the twins weren't too upset. I've been thinking of you today.
Diane - I wonder why you picked on Saba and me? Yes ladies, a bottle and a straw and Diane will manage just fine! Look after your poorly hand! Ooh and ahh a lot !!
Alison - say Hello to Scotland for me! I hope the weather is kind to you! I'd give Newcastle a wide berth if I were you!!
I've been to After School Club today so I'm not as bright as I might be!
This Tinker ain't ringing a bell tonight!
I will bid you all a very good night! Missing ones - we really do miss you!

  89. Hi Sue,
Another stunning card, love this idea.
Pam, hope today hasn't been too horrendous. As for the swimming - I'm not sure I'd be much good as I can't even teach myself!!
Maureen, we had to do synchronised swimming as part of our course ( just 3 sessions thank goodness) . I nearly drowned as I tried breathing in underwater! Not a good idea! My swimming lecturer went ballistic with me - no sympathy shone whatsoever! Never did like her! So considering that I think I'd better stay clear of the synchro team otherwise poor Sue might be a few followers short!
Thanks for all the good holiday wishes. Maureen we didn't go up through Newcastle - we went across to Penrith and up the M6. We've come up to Lossiemouth on the Moray Firth and it was a long drive - about 7 hours. Stopped at the Osprey Viewing station at Boat of Garten but no sign of the birds. Highlight has been watching a pod of Minky Whales tonight - fabulous!
    Love and hugs Alison xxx

  91. Hello Sue,
I have to admit I've taken a bit of convincing but you've finally done it, I love what you have done today with the Hobnail vase and it's going onto my wish list. Mind you having watched Julia today there are quite a few joining it. I can't understand how I didn't fall in love with the Indonesian background first time round, and the Bali, and the Sumatra and the other one who's name fails me! I think it's Java but then again that's a computer language so maybe not. Then of course there's the matching border and corners, I need that too. Beans on toast this week for us I think!, looking forward to seeing the rest of the shows tomorrow.
Pam been thinking of you and your family today, hope the twins were alright.
Diane, I have photographic evidence, I think you were swigging directly from the bottle!
Carmen hope you get your internet sorted soon.
Frances, hope the dentist was gentle, ouch!
Elaine, I do hope Darrell can get a photo sorted out, I'm dying to see the new you. I'm just soooo nosy!!
P- I suppose a few scratches just means he loves you, it's when he takes your leg off you'll need to worry.
Myra have you been on that white stuff again, honestly, you're as bad as Diane.
    Love and hugs for all
    Saba
It is its Java, I'm certain, I think!!!
