It's Like Mardi Gras!

Hi everyone!  Do you feel like you have just stepped into New Orleans for Mardi Gras when you look at this card?  I sure do!  I just loved the way the mask from the Venetian Motif set mixes with the harlequin papers from Canvas Corp (these sold out before I even had a chance to show them off!)  I started with a piece of milk coloured card that I embossed with the Venetian embossibility folder.  I lined it up and extended it a bit to fit my needs.  I cut three strips of harlequin card of varying lengths and cut forks into the end of each of them.  I matted them with black card and taped them to my embossed  background.  I cut a vintage lace border for the top of the card and ran it across the tops of my strips.  I cut a Venetian Motif in milk as a background for my mask.  I cut the mask in red and added a matching bow tied from Lipstick red seam binding.  I added my mask with a black boa feather and a couple of gems to my motif as my focal element.  I cut one of the fancy framed tags in black using the centre piece to make a frame out of it.  I stamped my sentiment on milk card and mounted it in the tag frame.  I added some mounting foam behind it for dimension and placed it in the lower corner.  I finished the card with some black rhinestone swirls and paper piercing around the edge.  A little tip too, if you just need a small swirl to use, nip off the ones on the sides of the mask to use as they are perfect!  All for now, Sue x

I think we all thought what a striking card this was when you showed it. I've been thinking about your easel for cards and as we can't call them easel cards as that is already used I came up with FASCIA CARDS. What do you think?

  19. I saw these dies and wondered what you could do with them. This reminds me of Perroit etc. Using the mask, it could go back to the 1700's fashions. I'm thinking, white wigs and feathers.

Had great fun last night cutting very fine leather with the dies, they had to go through a few times but they emboss at the same time. This is for one of the boys in the office whose 3rd leather anniversary is on Monday (lots of notice). Sue I will send you a photo.

  31. GM Sue - another stunner! Have ordered the Venetians and am waiting for them to come - love the idea of snipping of the swirls from the mask.

I tried putting felt thro my GC yday for the first time - I was a bit apprehensive about it - I used the border from your Vintage Lace set - to make a flower - what a result! It cut the felt like butter.

I am putting a Christmas card in a local village show on Saturday, based on one of your designs. If it gets placed I'll send you a pic.

Last night I was cutting out the mask in different materials just to see what they looked like. I guess all cards I make for months will have to have a mask because I made so many lol. It is my new favourite die at the moment. I never thought of cutting the swirls off though so must try that.

  152. Super card Sue.
I may have to change the colours a bit as I bought the Kraft and black but not the ivory - was watching the pennies at the time but should have known I'd need both and Sam's sold out of the ivory now! Will try another combination while I wait for it to come in again.

  153. Sue this is a stunning layout and with the harlequin style papers and the mask, it makes for another perfectly coordinated card.
When I first saw the card, I was taken back to the film Van Helsing (love that film). Dracula and Anna Valerious are dancing in a venitian style ball when Van Helsing swoops down on a rope and scoops her up and onto the balcony, saving her from the killer teeth of her vampire captor.
Ooooh, I'm all a quiver. Be still my beating heart.... LOL!!!
    Regards Linda xx
